The Denis Rankin Round Mourne Mountains N.I.
Slieve Bearnagh, 739m (courtesy BARF)
This 24 hour challenge presents a fitting memorial to Denis Rankin, a pioneer and leading light in fell running and mountain marathons in Northern Ireland since the 1970’s, who tragically died on 16th May 2013 competing in a fell race on Slievemoughanmore. It involves ticking-off all 39 peaks over 400 metres in height in the Mourne mountains, circumnavigating some 90km of rugged mountain terrain and climbing 6500m. The route was devised by BARF (Belfast Association of Rockclimbers and Fellrunners) and first completed by Billy Reed on 15th June in 20-29. Full details can be found on the official website - see link below..
None currently available - offers of a schedule for the guidance of future contenders would be welcome.
This is a formal challenge subject to rules and a registration process - see the link to the official website below. Note that attempts must be registered in advance.
