Tranter's Round Scotland
Named after Philip Tranter, who first completed it in 1964, this is considered to be Scotland's original 24 hour challenge, before being extended by Charlie Ramsay in 1978. It is a round of some 36 miles and over 20,000' taking in 19 Munros in the Mamores, Grey Corries and Aonachs together with Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis. It still remains a creditable and rewarding challenge in its own right. Both Pete Duggan's website and the FRA Forum are useful sources of practical information for contenders while record runs are logged by the Scottish Hill Runners - see below.
Pete Duggan's website includes a schedule of actual times for his 18-22 round of 2005 together with a proposed schedule for a 15 hour round based on further experience.
This is an informal challenge without registrations or time limits, although most runners would expect to complete it well under 24 hours. Why not share your experience on facebook to encourage and inspire other runners to have a go! .

All the routes on this site require proven mountain running experience. You undertake them entirely at your own risk. Please take full mountain safety precautions at all times. Always ensure you carry sufficient clothing, food and equipment to cope with dramatic changes in the weather conditions! Appropriate insurance cover is recommended.
