The Freeman Round Lakes
Steve completed this circuit of Lakeland fells in June 2013 in a time of 12-36 to mark his fiftieth year. It involved starting and finishing at his favourite pub in Ambleside, re-visiting sections of some of his favourite races and traversing most of a section of the Bob Graham Round. In all it adds up to running some 50 miles, climbing a contrasting mixture of 28 big and little fells and ascending nearly 15000 feet. It is offered as an informal challenge open to any age group, or as an alternative to the Joss Naylor Challenge but with the added attraction of finishing at a pub! A full account of doing the round can be found in Steve's book GONE FERAL: Wild in the Woods and Fells of the Lake District.
The route starts and finishes at the Golden Rule pub in Ambleside (GR 376 047)
